WHY IS ATTENDANCE IMPORTANT?

Regular school attendance is important of a consistent and continuous educational program. The State of California expects students to be in school every day unless they are ill or contagious. Students and schools are sanctioned in the following ways for lack of attendance:

  1. Three unexcused absences in a year

  2. Three unexcused tardies of 30 minutes or more

  3. A combination of the above constitutes truancy.

WHAT DO ALL THESE ATTENDANCE CODES MEAN?

ILL - illness

FBU - Family Business/vacation

TDY - Tardy (less than 30 minutes)

U30 - Tardy (over 30 minutes and isn't excused)

EXC - Excused absence

ELO - Tardy ( over 30 minutes and is excused)

UNV - unverified absence

We are required by law to notify you if your child becomes truant, and we will notify you of excessive absences and/or tardies (under 30 minutes).

For the school, we receive funding only for the actual days the students are in school. We no longer receive funding when students are out ill.

MY CHILD CAN'T COME TO SCHOOL...WHAT DO I DO?

Call the office before 8:30 am (831)-423-2454.

When your child is absent, please call the school office at 438-1090, option #1 before 8:30 a.m. Leave a message stating your name, your child’s name and the name of his/her teacher, the date of the absence, and the reason for the absence. If you do not call in the absence the office attempt to notify you.  If the office is unable to notify you within 3 days the absence will be changed to unexcused with no reason given.

In effort to record accurate daily attendance, we will notify you if your child is not in class and we have not received a phone call or email from you. We will make every attempt to stop further automatic robo notification once you have contacted us, but there may be moments when those notifications push out ahead of us inputting attendance updates. We thank you in advance for your patience during this very busy time of morning.

Independent Study Contracts

Independent Study Contracts are available to students needing to be out of school for a minimum of 5 consecutive days. Schools do receive funding for completed contracts.

OH NO! WE ARE LATE... NOW WHAT?

Come to the office.  We will give your child a "slip" and make sure they are marked correctly in our system.

If you are 30 minutes late or more please make sure to let us know the reason so we can mark your child appropriately.
